Greece in Rome – A Journey Through Ancient Masterpieces

From 29 November 2025 to 12 April 2026, the Capitoline Museums – Villa Caffarelli present Greece in Rome, a major exhibition that explores the centuries-old dialogue between Greek and Roman civilization. Visitors can admire more than 150 original works, including sculptures, reliefs and archaeological treasures from some of the world’s most prestigious institutions.

The exhibition traces how Greek art profoundly shaped Roman taste: from the earliest imports of luxury objects to the masterpieces that arrived in Rome after the conquests in the Eastern Mediterranean. Marble and bronze statues, refined silverware, Attic ceramics and decorative furnishings highlight the influence of Greek aesthetics on public spaces and private residences throughout the ancient city.

Among the highlights are the renowned Capitoline bronzes, the impressive stele from the Abbey of Grottaferrata, the Niobid sculptures from the Gardens of Sallust, and the remarkable return to Rome of a rare acroterial figure once owned by Cardinal Peretti Montalto. The exhibition also includes newly discovered artifacts, such as recently unearthed Attic pottery from excavations near the Colosseum.

Multimedia installations and projections enrich the experience, guiding visitors through an immersive journey into the artistic imagination of antiquity.
The exhibition is part of the series The Great Masters of Ancient Greece, dedicated to the legacy of Greek art in Roman and Western culture.
